Arabic Algeria El-Djazaïr (الجزائر) (Official Name: Popular Democratic Republic of Algeria) is a country located at the Western North of the African continent and the center of the Maghreb, opened on the Mediterranean, bordered in the East by Tunisia and Libya, in the West by Morocco. Algeria also has terrestrial borders with Niger in South-east, Mali in the south like with the Sahara-Westerner and Mauritania in South-west. Its surface is of 2 381 741 km ². Arabic Algiers El-Djazaïr الجزائر is the capital of Algeria and the largest city of the country. With three million inhabitants, the agglomeration of large Algiers gathers 10% of the Algerian population. The city is bordered in north by the Mediterranean. |

Kassaman was adopted temporarily like national anthem by Algeria shortly after its independence, in 1963. Its words were written by the nationalist poet Moufdi Zakaria on April 25,1955, using its blood like ink on the walls, whereas it was in the prison of Barberousse in Algiers. Music being the work of Mohammed Fawzi. The anthem was played for the first time in 1957. |
